While You Were Sleeping

In 2019, I was selected to be a part of a research initiative led by The New York Times R+D lab. The question was: how might we utilize spatial computing technology in service of journalism? My team focused on spatial audio for its exceptional fidelity and wide accessibility as compared with technologies like AR and VR.

To test its use, we worked on a story about Hunts Point Market, the wholesale supplier of 60% of the city's produce and the largest of its kind in the world.

The story consists of large scale photography accompanied by spatial field recordings that immerse the reader in the market.

Interacting with the images allows the reader to move within a virtual space, creating an ever-changing audio experience.
