RISD is a multifaceted institution that serves a wide range of audiences with its extensive offerings. A core challenge of this project was to craft a unifying identity without flattening the richness that defines RISD.
As a creative technologist and researcher embedded in the design team, my work explored how generative and data-driven tools could contribute to an adaptable and expressive design system.
In one direction, our team explored how the calligraphic stroke in RISD's iconic seal could be used as an expressive element.
A prototype for a generative swash tool, built using p5.js.
Another approach anchored RISD's identity in the breadth of work created by the community. We explored how an image library of isolated objects could be used to create unique compositions.
